Infrastructure and Facilities

Until 1969, Faculty of Forestry UGM occupied a half of Sekip Unit IV building. On 1969, it started to build new building for Faculty of Forestry UGM at the east side of Central Building KPTU UGM, which has an area about 5 Ha. The movement from unit IV, Sekip was done gradually. The last movement was on 1978, after the made of two-floors building was done, a few days before 7th World Forestry Congress at Jakarta. The extensive of this two-floors building is 433,75 M2, so the total of the old and new buildings is 2.069,39 M2.

Since 1974, faculty of Forestry occupied the present place, Jl. Agro Bulaksumur. The buildings that built at that time was one-floor building, it was limited and temporary seen from the Master Plan. On 1969, began to build a permanent building, including: two-floors building for Silviculture Study Program (Unit 1). And then, three-floors building (unit 11) which is used for management office, administration office, library, Forest Resources Conservation Study Program, Library, Forest Protection Lab, Wood Structure and Properties Lab, and some classrooms. The additional construction of the new 3-floors building 1000 m2 was carried out with contributions from Forestry Department and expected to be completed in September and inaugurated by Ministry of Forestry on 1996. This new unit is used for auditorium and classroom and Diploma program.

In order to expedite and support teaching process and research activity, Faculty of Forestry is equipped with some laboratories managed by each study program. The existence of this laboratory is vital in the implementation of practical and research in the context of preparing students’ final assignment. Besides, laboratory is also used by educational staff in the development of their science field. The function of this laboratory enhanced by the provision of instruments, not only from outside (abroad, alumni, etc), but also from University OPF fund. At the future, the role of laboratory will be more important, along with the practice facilities or research station on the field to welcome the implementation of Research University program, which has been scheduled at University level.
