History and Development
In beginning, Faculty of Forestry was a part of Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). Forestry department on Faculty of Agriculture was inaugurated on Opened University Senate Meeting led by the President of UGM at that time, Prof. Dr. Sardjito, and the name Faculty of Agriculture was changed into Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry.
If Faculty of Agriculture was established by some lecturers graduated from Landbow Hogeschool Wageningen (LWH), such as: (alm) Prof. Iso Reksohadiprojo and (alm) Prof.Ir. Haryono Danusastro, while Forestry department was conducted by foresters, the tutors of Forestry Academy, such as: Prof. Ir. PKM Steuf, Prof.Ir. C. Gartner, Prof. Ir. EHP juta, Prof. F. Versteegh, Prof. Ir. AH Verkuyl and Dipl.Ing. Hollerworger. Those lecturers were also teaching at Forestry High School at Bogor as a branch of Universitas Indonesia, which becomes IPB (Institut Pertanian Bogor).
On 1957, the Dutch foresters left Indonesia, and Forestry department was lack of lecturers for a while. Those lack of lecturers were very influenced the fluency of the course program and the amount of students. At 1950/60, the lecturers’ amount was increase and so do the students.
On 1963, through the Decree of Minister of University and Science, August 24, 1963, Forestry department was separated from faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, became a faculty of Forestry. With the same Decree, there was also establish Faculty of Agriculture Engineering, separated from Faculty of Agriculture, so those three faculties were own established.
