Educational System
Along the UGM’s way to become a research University and as BHMN (Badan Hukum Milik Negara/ State Owned Legal Entity), learning paradigm is also changed from teacher centered into student centered learning (SCL). All courses at Faculty of Forestry UGM is held using Semester Credit System (SKS). This system of education implementation is intended to:
-
Providing students opportunity to plan their study in accordance with their ability and the available time.
-
Providing opportunity to follow education activity in accordance with their interests, talents, and abilities.
-
Providing facility of students’ abilities evaluation system.
Educational Administration
Academic administration is set in Faculty and University levels. The academic administration is available on one system, which is supporting facility on planning, organizing, and evaluating the educational implementation.
1. Administration Requirements
In the implementation of academic activities, there are several things to note:
a. Instructions and provisions
-
Academic calendar containing:
Time order of begin and end course activities, exam periods, exam results announcement.
-
Type, position, and nature of courses in accordance with the steps, and weight of each credit for each course.
-
Courses that require prerequisites or practicum will be listed clearly. Courses that require prerequisites are allowed only if the prerequisite courses taken have taken first with a minimum value of D.
b. Academic Guidance by Academic Supervisor
-
The academic guidance is given in the form of academic and non academic counseling, and basically can be done every time by the academic supervisor.
-
Guidance in the form of a study plan provided in the beginning of the semester.
2. Academic Administration Implementation
Academic administration held in every semester, and the implementation arranged in several stages, as follows:
-
Preparation of Registration
-
KRS fulfillment which is signed by Academic Supervisor.
-
Implementation of course, practicum, and practice.
-
Exam and Exam results announcement.
-
Recording the score of exam result.
a. Preparation of Registration
On each semester, students will decide the courses that they will take, on the future semester. In this case, students have to prepare themselves before the registration day. They have to prepare:
-
Kartu rencana studi (KRS).
-
Kartu hasil studi (KHS)/ Course Record
-
Set of scores
-
Student Card
-
Kartu perubahan rencana studi (KPRS).
KPRS is needed if there is a change in KRS because of some reasons, such as: the same course time, cancellation of courses due to the small number of followers, etc.
b.Fulfillment of Kartu Rencana Studi (KRS)
The fulfillment of KRS must be carried out according to the established procedure. The KRS fulfillment time is set by Faculty and announced before the registration start. KRS registration outside the scheduled time is only allowed for students who are doing the task by the faculty by asking faculty permission. When students are doing a registration, they have to show their valid student card.
On that registration, if everything has been considered eligible, students will be given a sheet of instruction, KRS and previous semester KHS. KRS fulfillment cannot be delegated to others, except with written authorization given by the Dean for some reason. The delay KRS fulfillment will will result in the emergence of difficulties, such as: the inclusion students’ name as the course, practicum and practice participant for those whom follow course, practicum, and practice.
The changes of KRS can be done not later than 2 weeks after the lectures take place according to schedule on academic calendar. The cancellation of lectures, not changes of KRS, can be done not later than 3 weeks after the lectures take place according to the schedule on academic calendar. That cancellation is notified to the Academic Supervisor and known by the Education sub-division. If the provisions are not fulfilled, the cancellation of courses considered unauthorized and E score is given for the relevant courses, and still considered in the GPA. The procedure of the cancellation of subjects is similar with the KRS fulfillment procedure.
c. Example of Study Plan
Basically, students can plan when they’d finished their studies with the study plan as a whole. At the first semester, all students were given the same opportunity to take 22 credits. The next credit in the next semester is depending on the GPA.
To help students plan their study, below are some explanations:
An example of study plan made for guidance for beginner students in planning their undergraduate study at Faculty of Forestry UGM. This example of scheduling is made for average students who are allowed to take 18 credits each semester after first semester. Based on this condition, it can be expected that the study will be completed in 9 semesters.
